While there’s probably not enough to get owners of the previous PSP to upgrade, newcomers will find the PSP-3000 to be a solid portable gaming and multimedia device.
The screen on the PSP-3000 offers better colour reproduction than that of earlier PSP models, which is always a plus.
This new PSP 3000 also offers improved AV output for video and game playback on TVs and built-in Skype with onboard microphone, but sadly no camera.
The PSP-3000 also retains all of the impressive media and online features of earlier PSP models and a deep line-up of great game titles that offer way better graphics than Nintendo DS games.
Despite screen improvements, there are still some problems such as noticeable jagged lines and scan lines during high-motion video and gaming sequences. The screen isn’t glare-free, and is still a magnet for fingerprints, while the web browser and data input can be incredibly slow. The device also doesn’t offer built-in storage.
Despite some usability issues, the PSP-3000 offers a very solid gaming experience compared to the DS.
The variety of games available is wider and probably more appealing to less casual gamers.
