I came across these thoughts which I would like to share with readers and in particular with all the prospective candidates who will be contesting the next general election.
Perhaps candidates together with their party leaders could be more careful in their election speeches, so as not to be carried away with what they say and fall into the trap of promising things they would be unable to deliver upon once elected:
1. One cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging savings in the economy.
2. One cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
3. One cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
4. One cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
5. One cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than one’s income.
6. One cannot promote peace and tranquillity by inciting class hatred.
7. One cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
8. One cannot build character and courage by taking away a person’s initiative and independence.
9. One cannot help persons permanently by doing for them what they could and should do themselves.
