Malta has the fourth lowest percentage of unemployed youths in the EU, according to Family Minister Chris Said.

Speaking during a careers day organised by De La Salle College, Dr Said noted that for the first time in its history, Malta had nearly 150,000 paid workers in 2011. Some 6,000 new jobs had been generated within 12 months, he added.

An increase had also been registered in the number of post-secondary students. Some 18,000 people attended courses at the University, the Junior College, the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology and the Institute of Tourism Studies.
