The planning authority is in the process of formulating a policy for the development of solar farms following a request by Government.

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority said that, before drawing up the policy, it was publishing a proposed objective for feedback.

The proposed objective is “to establish a policy framework which shall define a solar farm, provide guidance for the location of new solar farms with a priority, but not exclusively, for large scale roof tops, for land already committed to industrial development and for quarries, and to identify potential impacts to be addressed”.

Individuals and organisations are being invited to send their submissions, by October 14, to the Director of Planning, Solar Farm Policy, Mepa, St Francis Ravelin Street, Floriana or by e-mail to solarfarmpolicy@mepa.org.mt.
