I read with interest the article Mepa Unhappy With Massive Sliema Project (April 11). This, of course, refers to the proposed development of the Malta Union Club area.

Is the Malta Environment and Planning Authority also unhappy about the Dingli Circus, Sliema area? It seems not! However, the residents of this site are definitely unhappy with the extreme and extremely foolish overdevelopment in this area. There are at least three major projects, the largest of which is the former Metropole crater.

The site belongs to third parties not the Malta Union Club

I say crater because any self-respecting volcano would be envious of the huge hole and the works thereof. On any given day there are trucks, cranes, concrete mixers, bulldozers, you name it. This in spite of the area being the home of many elderly residents in their 70s, 80s and even 90s.

To add insult to injury, there is now a private coach parked on the Arriva bus stop site, so the poor commuters will have to stand in the middle of this busy road to flag down the bus if they want the bus driver to even notice them.

The Sliema local council seems powerless to help. No wonder the disgruntled Sliema residents didn’t bother to go and cast their vote!
