Sliema Wanderers are widely fancied to leapfrog Valletta into third place when they meet Mosta in today’s second match at the Hibs Stadium (kick-off 8pm).

Valletta’s loss to Hibs means that the Blues, who are firmly in contention to qualify for the Europe League and also have an outside chance for the title, will move three points clear of the crisis-hit champions if they beat a Mosta who have suffered four defeats in as many Championship Pool outings.

Goalkeeper Henry Bonello is still sidelined with a leg injury but otherwise Sliema coach Alfonso Greco has no selection problems.

For Mosta, Steve Bezzina and Alex Cini are set to be included after recovering from injuries but Steve Chiemeka is out with a knee problem.

Mosta beat Sliema 2-0 in the first round but the Blues won by the same scoreline their second clash.

Today’s opening Relegation Pool match features Qormi and Floriana.

Qormi will be without Kris Thachkray and Leighton Grech, both suspended. Thackray is currently having a trial with a team in the United States.

Thomas Paris is out with an ankle problem but otherwise Floriana coach Iain Brunskill has a full squad at his disposal.

Balzan have yet to taste victory over Floriana this season after a 3-1 defeat and a 1-1 draw.
