Twelve boys from the Sliema Wanderers FC Nursery have just returned from a week-long football and educational tour in Leicestershire.

Accompanied by parents, members of the Wanderers’ nursery committee and head coach Claude Chetcuti, the youngsters took part in training sessions under the guidance of Owen Johnson, from Leicester City, and also played four friendly matches against Allexton, Syston, Alyeston Park and the Leicester City development squad.

Sliema’s U-12s also played in the Diamond Cup Tournament where they reached the quarter-finals. During their stay in England, the Sliema group enjoyed recreational visits to Alton Towers and Twycross Zoo plus an educational tour of The National Space Centre.

The Sliema squad was made up of Glenn Camilleri, Jake Bajada, Luke Anthony Borg, Jackson Lee Catania, Mark Desira, Omar Eluoni, Miguel Mifsud, Zack Mifsud, Nathan Montebello, Gary Muscat, Matthew Pulis and Edward Gatt. Steve Gregory, a recruitment officer at Leicester City, was in charge of the Sliema group.

In a statement, the Sliema Wanderers nursery thanked Marion Hayton from the Leicestershire FA and the clubs for their hospitality.
