Tired of paying more for a hotel room just because you’re travelling alone?
Well, a new website is offering a solution – provided you are willing to share a room with a stranger.
Easynest offers users the chance to find another single traveller who will split the cost of a hotel room.
The site is based on the idea that most hotels charge a flat rate on rooms regardless of the number of guests.
So in theory, thrifty solo travellers can skip the hostel and split the cost of a room in a swankier establishment.
Easynest works in a similar way to Airbnb, which allows its users to rent out their homes or rooms to holidaymakers.
Hardy – or perhaps foolhardy – travellers set up a profile on the website, indicating their preferred destination and travel date. ‘Hosts’ – fellow solo travellers who have already booked a room – can then contact them to see if they want to share.
There is no accountability and both parties could easily be scammed
Like Airbnb and Coachsurfing (where users stay for free at people’s homes), users of the site are encouraged to create interesting profiles to elicit a timely and positive response to their request.
Easynest user must pay the host directly for their share of the room.
However, review website Hotelchatter.com has cautioned that the hotel is not involved in the transaction, and Easynest does not currently provide an online platform to conduct the business side of the agreement – it is strictly between the two users.
As a result, there is no accountability and both parties could easily be scammed, according to the reviewer.
