Jonathan Glazer’s film Under the Skin is showing as part of the Malta International Arts Festival at Fort St Elmo tomorrow, with Mica Levi’s score performed live by the world-renowned contemporary classical ensemble, the London Sinfonietta.

The 2014 film impressed both filmgoers and critics with its darkly seductive portrayal of an otherworldly predator, played by Scarlett Johansson. Mica Levi’s beautiful, elemental and skewed music provided an intoxicating soundtrack.

Previously known as a DJ and singer-songwriter in her band Micachu and the Shapes, Levi was catapulted to international fame and earned herself a Bafta nomination for the film score.

With a dizzying mix of digitally-processed and live sound, Levi’s microtonal world is captivating in performance – veering between sensuality and disquiet to compelling effect.

The London Sinfonietta places the best contemporary classical music at the heart of today’s culture, while engaging and challenging the public through inspiring performances of the highest standard, and taking risks to develop new work and talent. Founded in 1968, the ensemble’s commitment to new music has seen it commission over 350 works, and premiere many hundreds more.

Under the Skin (rated 15+) is being screened at Fort St Elmo, Valletta, tomorrow at 9pm. Note that the film includes nudity and some scenes of a sexual and violent nature. Tickets may be obtained online at http://ticketenginex.kreattivita.org .
