Fifteen boats will take part in the BOV Gozo Regatta 2016, being held this weekend.

Organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club, the BOV Gozo Regatta is a popular event among Maltese sailors as it offers a combination of yachting and social events.

The BOV Gozo Regatta is a three-day race between today and Sunday.

Racing sets off this afternoon, when the crews leave Marsamxett Harbour on their way to Mġarr. Tomorrow, they will participate in a series of coastal races and then cross the channel back to Malta on Sunday.

“The BOV Gozo Regatta has always been a popular event with crews and this year is no exception,” Godwin Zammit, the RMYC commodore, said.

“Although crews take racing very seriously, evening social events add to the allure of this event as family and friends get together to mingle and relax.”

On his part, Charles Azzopardi, head of PR at BOV, said: “We are delighted to see both familiar faces and new ones in the participating fleet. As a major supporter of local sporting initiatives, Bank of Valletta hopes for the best sailing conditions for the race.”
