Simon Busuttil gave a very good Budget speech which attracted a positive reaction from various sectors of Maltese society.
Busuttil is increasingly becoming more credible. He has proposed a committee to ensure the highest ethical standards among MPs and has emphasised the importance of political responsibility, honesty and accountability.
In a recent TVM interview Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that people are more interested in their disposable income than any other issue. He should be more careful about making such sweeping statements.
It is commonly perceived, for example, that most Labour MPs’ salaries exceed €50,000.
This amount overshadows the €500 weekly increase so strongly criticised prior to the election. It is evident that this is what Muscat had in mind when he spoke about adequate salaries for MPs.
Two other major issues which people are concerned about are transport and energy.
Within such a context it is important to support the party in Opposition which is asking people to stand up for what is right.
