The other day I was watching Anġlu Farrugia, Labour Party deputy leader, on Bondì+ and was reminded of a very serious allegation he had made back in 2008, just after the election.

On March 29 of that year, The Times reported that Dr Farrugia “alleged yesterday that hundreds of votes may have been exchanged for money”. Dr Farrugia even “knew” the market price for votes (from €50 to €1,500) and gave the Police Commissioner a report.

More than three years have now passed; a solitary case was brought to court but thrown out and we have not heard anything else about the matter. Have the police really investigated the claims about hundreds of votes? What was the outcome? The public, made up mostly of ċittadini Maltin, has a right to know.

Dr Farrugia had even insisted that “the (2008) election should be nullified” if his claims were true (March 30, 2008) and his political credibility now hangs perilously in the balance.
