The sieges of 1565 and 1940-1943 and the 70th anniversary of the George Cross Award were commemorated in Victoria last Sunday.

The event kicked off with band marches by the Police Band from St Francis Square via Main Gate Street, Upper Republic Street to Savina Square, followed by a re-enactment of the presentation of the George Cross at Independence Square.

This year’s commemorative speech was delivered by Franco Masini; this was followed by a display by the Police Band. The Armed Forces of Malta provided a guard of honour.

Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono laid a wreath at the foot of the Christ the King monument.

Through the collaboration of Heritage Malta the orginal George Cross medal was on display at the Banca Giuratale in Victoria.
