Maria Pellicano of Siġġiewi won the Youth of the Year award, organised by the Oasi Foundation at Hotel Ta’ Ċenċ in Sannat.

Ms Pellicano, who was presented with the award by President George Abela, was nominated by the group Stand (Strive towards ability not disability) for her continuous support within the group and other voluntary work with Agenzija Appoġġ, the Sisters of Madre Teresa and Faith Alive, which helps youth in their spiritual formation.

Four young people, two from Gozo and two from Malta, qualified for the award.

All nominees were presented with a certificate and a commemorative trophy by the foundation’s director general, Fr Manuel Cordina, helped by last year’s Youth of the Year Sarah Borg.

Fr Cordina said this year was the last edition of Oasi’s Youth of the Year award. The event will make way for one national award, the Presidential Award for Volunteers, launched earlier this year under the auspicies of the President.
