Since when is a person’s conscience subjected to the will of the majority? The separation of Church and state is a positive thing. However, when speaking of one’s conscience from a Christian perspective, one cannot separate one’s actions from one’s conscience, which should be well formed and informed according to the Word of God.

There may be some who relegate conscience to the sphere of “personal feelings”. If this were so we would easily fall prey to the perils of relativism. When one acts freely according to one’s conscience it cannot be but the result of one’s reasoning and freedom. This may or may not be accompanied by one’s personal feelings and emotions.

The Christian conscience bases its religious beliefs on the Word of God. Does anyone doubt that God wants us to promote the common good?
