Boat insurance is of paramount importance. There are two types of boat insurance available at Elmo Insurance

A comprehensive cover will cover your boat against accidental damage, theft, fire and malicious damage.

A third party liability insurance will cover you if you cause damage to another boat or, worse still, cause injury.

This policy is mandatory if you are to sail in Malta.

The minimum limit required by Transport Malta is €235,000.

Comprehensive policies should cover your boat against accidental damage, theft, fire and vandalism, whether in use or not.

Some policies will stipulate that the yacht is laid up ashore during certain times of the year. Youneed to check your policy carefully and find out what cover wouldbe in place if you were unable tolift the boat from the water orif you wanted to launch the boat prior to the end of the laid-upperiod.

You should also carefully check that the cruising range is adequate for you, as you will not be covered if a claim were to occur outside a certain range.
