TorinoFilmLab, in partnership with the Malta Film Commission, will be screening a number of short films as part of the FrameWork 2012 Workshop at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, Floriana.

Screenings of the short films will take place on Sunday and on Monday, from 9 p.m. to 10.15 p.m.

Films will include Cafe Regular, Cairo by Ritesh Batra (11 minutes), Casus Belli by Yorgus Zois (11 minutes) and La Maladie Blanche by Christell Lheureux (43 minutes), on the first day; and Rite by Michael Pearce (17 minutes), Laura’s Party by Simon Jaquemet (20 minutes) and Autumn Man by Jonas Selberg Augustsén (29 minutes), on the second day.

Entrance is free of charge but booking is recommended in view of seating restrictions.

An opera by Giuseppe Verdi in a production by the Salzburger Festspiele. Natalie Dessay will put on the red dress in Willy Decker’s stunning production, in her first Violetta at the Met. Matthew Polenzani sings Alfredo, Dmitri Hvorostovsky is Germont, and Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium. Encore Screening at 7 p.m.

Celebrity Concert for Europe
The Sliema Philharmonic Society is presenting its annual concert at the Auditorium Sir Temi Zammit, University, Msida at 8 p.m. The band will be conducted by Mro Ronnie Debattista together with the special participation of tenor Ludwig Galea and soprano Karen Camilleri. A historical re-enactment that portrays an authentic event that took place regularly inside Fort St Elmo featuring the inspection of the fort and its garrison by the Grand Bailiff of the Order of the Knights of St John in charge of military affairs. The show begins at 11 a.m.
