Fancy having road cutting and digging with a full fleet of super heavy vehicles, horns hooting and workers giving instructions at the top of their lungs, just for the sake of a few good metres of asphalt. All this started on May 16 at 9pm and caused a disturbance right through until 5am of the following morning, right on our doorstep in Cannon Road, Santa Venera.

This is a residential area, where the house shakes and sleep is impossible for grown-ups, let alone having a baby in the house and members of family on shift work.

It is not just frustrating but constitutes mental torture. Not to worry about the sick and the elderly. The Transport Authority dares to extinguish people’s rights and needs, and is so insensitive that it allows such works to be carried out at ungodly hours.

I don’t want to be told that “works have to be done at night, since this area is an arterial route”. Many arterial roads have been shut for months on end.

We went through the same trauma two years ago and we complained then. This shows that our rights are not being considered by those in authority who take these decisions and who are nicely tucked up in bed and guarding their sleep.
