The bring-in site in this picture lies just next to the St Paul’s Bay/Qawra football ground and a few metres away from a busy hotel. Numerous tourists pass by this ugly and shameful site every single day and surely do not get a good impression of the Maltese people or how things are run by the local council.

A similar letter and picture of the same site was sent to The Times a few months ago but, unfortunately ,no drastic and proper action was taken by the local council. Numerous calls to the council fell on deaf ears and we were told that Green MT are the contractors responsible for keeping the area around the bring-in sites clean and tidy.

On one particular occasion a couple of men were sent on site to clean and wash the area but they ended up throwing most of the debris and rubbish in the field just behind the large containers as they did not have the means to dispose of it otherwise.

A report was made to the Qawra police who arrived soon but not in the nick of time. It seems like the so-called green wardens could not care less about this issue. The site is not being cleaned on a daily basis and surveillance is not being carried out to catch and fine anyone who is caught throwing rubbish and other material illegally in the area.

The local council needs to tackle this issue seriously by installing CCTV cameras on site.

This is shameful for our country.
