Milena Dobreva complained about the apparent overly long time it took for the Water Services Corporation to tackle a sewage leak near the University roundabout (Sewage Leak, July 1).

I would like to assure readers that our staff acted immediately upon the first notification we received from the local council on June 27. A blockage was found and cleared and, in addition, the affected area was cleaned up.

A second notification arrived on June 28 at noon but the blockage had already been cleared. The same location was re-inspected on July 2 and, yet again, on July 3. There was no sign of any further leakage. The Health Department was also informed that matters had been rectified. We understand Ms Dobreva’s concern and frustration and thank her for bothering to report this issue but it is simply incorrect to state that nobody at the Water Services Corporation shoulders responsibility.
