A 24-year-old Eritrean was sentenced to seven months in jail and fined €5,000 for assaulting and resisting a number of police officers while drunk.

The incident happened on October 24 at about 6.30am at the Marsa park-and-ride.

Kubrom Berhe Haile, 24, who has a Maltese residence permit but no fixed address, was accused of resisting and threatening the police and disobeying orders. Police Inspector Roderick Agius also charged him with damaging police property, disturbing the public peace and causing slight injuries to one of the officers who tried to restrain him

Magistrate Saviour Demicoli found Mr Haile guilty of all six charges brought against him.
