I refer to the letter by Joseph Buttigieg (May 31) about the British Services pension.

To add to our plight, the British government has now deemed it fit to start deducting PAYE of 20 per cent on our pension as of April 2014, although this had been always tax free.

Since we declare it in our local income tax return and pay local tax rates, this is most unfair.

Wasn’t there supposed to be a double-taxation agreement with our government?

The local secretary of our association had written to the UK Inland Revenue about it, but so far has not yet had a reply.
