Artist Franco Navarro depicts the greed of Fáfnir in a new exhibition entitled Fáfnir at the Auberge d’Italie, in Merchants Street, Valletta.

Fafnir was a Norse mythological monster, mainly represented as a dragon or serpent. In Norse mythology both the dragon and the serpent symbolise greed.

As 33-year-old Mr Navarro, now a tutor at the Government School of Art in Valletta, says: “I decided to represent us corrupted by Fáfnir’s greedy hoard.

“We easily obtain luxury, but do we afford it? I believe, in many cases, not!”

The exhibition is made up of 10 oil paintings, 12 cartoni (preparatory drawings) and fast sketches and studies.

Opening hours Monday to Friday 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.; Saturday 8.30 a.m. to 4.45 p.m., Sunday 8.30 a.m. to 12.30pm.
