The other day, I was passing by the Kennedy Grove on the coast road from St Paul’s Bay and noted the beginning of what seem to be major road works.
I am alarmed that it seems difficult to see what can be accomplished without damage to or destruction of the noble mature pine trees that line this route, giving great charm and value to this part of the landscape, and the unusual feature of a summer shaded road.
It is essential that the continued growth of these trees is not endangered in any way. Likewise, it must be ensured that their almost unique habitat is not destroyed.
Mature afforestation is not common on the island, as we know, and here I cannot imagine what could possibly compensate for the loss of this magnificent avenue.
