Joseph Muscat (February 3) touches on a very sore point that does not seem to be respected in the way it should be. This is the separation of powers, between the legislative, the judiciary and the executive.

This may be due to our having given up the time-honoured principle that judges hold office quamdiu se bene gesserint and this during the pleasure of the Crown or head of state.

Although I do not stand four-square with Muscat’s final comment regarding impeachment, his forthright and clear ideas show that there are one or two things to be learned from the men who were boys when I was a boy.
