On Tuesday, August 21, both domestic and separated waste was to be collected at different intervals in Lija. At about 10.35 a.m., I was outside my door waiting for my breadseller to arrive with his van.

At the same time the refuse truck had reached Daniel Sammut and W. Muscat streets. The three refuse collectors were collecting both domestic and separated waste bags together and putting them straight into the hopper garbage truck.

I immediately called the local council to report this. I asked to speak to the administrative secretary but he was not at his office. I left my name and telephone number hoping to see what action would be taken, but two days later I still had no reply from the council. I hope this matter is taken up by the government department concerned.
