A 16-year-old girl who was involved in the stabbing of a 14-year-old friend has been placed on probation for three years.

The girl was charged in 2011 alongside her 15-year-old cousin who is pleading not guilty to attempting to murder the younger girl from Żebbug.

The cousin is also charged with seriously injuring the victim and carrying a knife illegally.

The 14-year-old was stabbed three times in the back in St Nicholas Street, Valletta, following a fight over a boy.

The girl charged with the attempted murder, who at the time was pregnant with someone else’s child, used to go out with the victim’s boyfriend.

Defence lawyer Franco Debono told the court that, at the time, there were serious social problems involving all three girls.

The 14-year-old’s father had been murdered.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke found the 16-year-old guilty of causing serious injury.
