A seminar on unified computing was recently held with speakers explaining the benefits of virtualisation and the latest related technology.

ICT Solutions, a local systems integrator company, organised the event in collaboration with Cisco and Hitachi Data Systems. While Cisco is a global leader in networking solutions, Hitachi Data Systems products, services and solutions are used by more than 70 per cent of the Fortune 100 companies.

Presentations were given by Cisco’s Eugenios Zervoudis, product specialist on unified computing, who spoke about how Cisco have moved on from being a network solution provider to offering a complete consolidated computing environment which includes scalable and cost effect blade and rack mount servers.

The seminar was also addressed by Klemen Bertoncelj, senior solutions consultant at Hitachi Data Systems. He focused on how storage technology is evolving and presented this company’s product portfolio of high availability storage solutions. The range of solutions scale from smaller appliances to high-end data centre storage solutions.

Keith Fearne, managing director at ICT Solutions, said: “Consolidation of servers and storage into a virtualised architecture is a very important topic, with business looking at how they can save money through better utilisation of assets, less management overhead and space and energy savings.”
