Malta’s rich cultural and historical heritage has been beautifully showcased in two high quality publications promoting it as an ideal cultural destination for the Spanish.

The Malta Tourism Authority, through its history and cultural directorate, produced a wall calendar with Historia National Geographic Spain and a special, 116-page edition of Clio Magazine, one of the top history publications in Spain and Latin America, highlighting the main events of Maltese history in Spanish.

The wall calendar includes photos, taken by Jon Wrigley of The Malta Experience, of the most outstanding archaeological and historical locations of the Maltese Archipelago such as the Hypogeum, Ħaġar Qim Temples, the Citadel, St John’s Co-Cathedral, Mdina, Valletta and Sacra Infermeria.

The editor of Clio Magazine, Josep Borell, and photographer Jose Ovidio Vega Martinez visited Malta in May and put together an edition with several articles highlighting the connection with Spain in Malta’s chequered history . The tourism authority has been successful in maintaining tourist arrivals from Spain during 2012, despite an extremely difficult economic climate.

Malta was visible in the Spanish market with various advertising campaigns throughout the year in national papers such as El Mundo, El Periodico and ABC, national radio stations, well known magazines, outdoor advertising in Barcelona and various online campaigns.
