When Alfred Sant won the general election in 1996, I was the first and possibly the only PN supporter to praise him publicly for the civil way in which the victory celebrations were held.

The seed of tolerance sown by Eddie Fenech Adami in 1987 was now being watered by his political adversary Sant.

Today, 17 years later, it is the turn of the new Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat, to water this plant that has now grown into a small tree. It seems that the violent and atrocious past under Dom Mintoff and Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici has been buried for good.

That is exactly what we all want. We want to live in peace irrespective of our political beliefs.

Thanks to Lawrence Gonzi for what he did for us all and my sincerest best wishes to Muscat.
