Gino Schiavone has been elected on the executive board of the European Observatoire of Sport Employment (EOSE) and appointed secretary-general.
Mr Schiavone has occupied several positions in Malta, including chief executive officer of the Malta Sport Council, member of the expert group for the Sport Development Policy and Sports Vision 2020, a core group member on the MEUSAC board representing tourism, and founder president of the Malta Exercise Health and Fitness Association.
Mr Schiavone was the brains behind outdoor fitness centres in Malta. He was also instrumental in securing EU projects for sports, including the LLL Sport project, the V-Sport project, Training 4 Volunteers and also the e-learning fitness project. He is currently a sports tourism and active leisure lecturer at the Institute of Tourism Studies.
EOSE is a recognised EU body which also helps sports associations apply for EU funds.
