Msida St Joseph 0
St Andrew’s 2
Two second-half goals saw St Andrew’s through to the fourth round of the FA Trophy. The Saints were the more enterprising side at first but Msida played better on the changeover only for them to concede the goals that dumped them out of the competition.
St Andrew’s went close early on but the unmarked Trayo Grozev was blocked in time by Msida goalkeeper John Agius.
The first division side continued to push forward and on nine minutes Michael Grima hit the Msida woodwork after a good pass by Joseph Farrugia in the area. Grozev’s free header finished just wide and Vella Petroni’s effort was stopped by Agius.
Msida hit back but Lee Baldacchino shot badly with only the goalkeeper to beat as the first-half petered out to a tame 0-0 draw.
Grozev, however, opened the score for the Saints three minutes from the restart after collecting a long pass and drifting through before beating Agius from an angle.
St Andrew’s keeper Matthew Towns did well to preserve his side’s lead when denying Ronnie Celeste who had raced unimpeded to reach Baldacchino’s splitting pass.
Joseph Farrugia should have wrapped up the match for the Saints midway through the half but with only the goalkeeper to beat he hit his shot wide.
However, Wayne Attard’s team sealed the issue late in the match when from a quick counter-attack Grozev beat Agius in style.
