The search is on for the next European Destination of Excellence (EDEN) in Malta.

This is a European Commission project that aims to promote sustainable off-the-beaten-track destinations across Europe.

Now in its sixth year, the 2013 theme is Accessible Tourism, targeting destinations that are accessible to tourists regardless of their physical limitations or age.

Previous EDEN competition winners were Nadur (Emerging Rural Destination), Santa Luċija in Gozo (Local Intangible Heritage), Mellieħa (Protected Areas), Senglea (Aquatic Tourism) and Għarb (Regeneration of Physical Sites).

Free consultations with interested parties will be held on Tuesday in Malta and on Wednesday in Gozo. To make an appointment e-mail Nadine Mifsud on nadine.mifsud@gov.mt.

The deadline for applications is March 15 at 5pm.
