In 1960, Mary Borg, aged 14, was writing to a girl in Scotland, Marlyn Ross, also 14, of 40, Sunnyside Crescent Holytown, by Motherwell, in Lanarkshire, Scotland, who attended Bellshill High School.

Mary and Marlyn were pen pals. A friend of Marlyn, who visits Malta regularly, promised her he would contact The Sunday Times in an effort to trace her old pen pal Mary. Marlyn has only one picture of Mary at the age of 14, a photo sent to Marlyn in January 1960.

Marlyn went to Canada at the age of 21 in January 1967, spent 10 years there, was married and divorced. She then returned to Scotland for two years, met Ron Sotheron in England, stayed in England, married him and has lived in England for 34 years.

Marlyn couldn’t have children with her first husband but had two boys from her second marriage. So at 67, she has two sons aged 27 and 30, and a grandson – William – aged one year nine months.

Marlyn would love to hear from Mary. She can be contacted at 42, Queens Walk, Ashford, Middlesex TW15 3JA, on tel: 00 4417 8424 6354, or by e-mail at RnSot@talktalk.net.
