The third race from the Sicilian Minimoto Championship, held earlier this month at the SoleLuna track in Vittoria, saw the participation of six Maltese riders who obtained the licence required to race abroad through the assistance of Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi.

After two days of training and bike setting in very hot conditions, Dylan Cauchi registered the best lap time of 35.803 seconds in practice and Glenn Schembri recorded the second best lap time.

On Race Day, Schembri, 13, immediately took the lead which he retained for the entire distance to win the race 4.349 seconds ahead of Cauchi. Gabriel Spiteri was third to make it an en plein for the Maltese drivers in Vittoria.

Shannon Cauchi, Danilo Sapienza, Paolo Bentivenga and Ryan Faenza were engaged in an exciting battle for positions behind the top three, ending with the former claiming fourth place ahead of Sapienza.

Faenza finished the race sixth and Dion Farrugia had to settle for seventh place as his race was hampered by an intermittent ignition fault.

The championship will stop for the summer. Competition continues with the fourth round at the Pista del Sole in Melilli in September.
