Nationalist councillor Massimo Scerri has been elected to the Lija local council to fill the seat vacated by former mayor Ian Castaldi Paris who resigned last week.

Mr Scerri was chosen during a casual election that took place yesterday, the local council said in a statement.

Last week, Dr Castaldi Paris resigned from his post as mayor and councillor within the Lija local council and also officially stepped down as member of the PN, citing lack of respect. He announced his resignations in two letters that were forwarded to the media.

The role of mayor has now been filled by PN councillor Magda Magri Naudi, previously the deputy mayor.

Nationalist councillor Stephanie Cutajar, becomes deputy mayor.

The rest of the council now consists of Mr Scerri and PL representatives Marc Sant and Lorraine Farrugia.
