Voltage optimisation is a new energy-saving technique for retail outlets and small businesses.

Introducing the new product – VO4 Home – Martin Debono, devel-opment director at CD Power Saving Co Ltd, says the new technique reduces the supply voltage to a site, minimises losses in equipment and does not require a change in lifestyle.

It delivers the energy reductions with minimum savings of eight per cent. Explaining how voltage optimisation can help save energy, Mr Debono said voltage supplied to homes and businesses was generally higher than it needed to be, leading to excessive losses in many types of electrical equipment.

This was partly because of the need to allow for voltage drops across the electrical network. In Malta, the average voltage was 238, whereas appliances were designed to run at 220V.
