Troubled actor Tom Sizemore, who starred in hit films Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down, was arrested in Los Angeles in his latest brush with the law, police said.

Mr Sizemore, who was jailed in 2007 after violating the terms of a suspended sentence, was arrested in the early hours under a warrant issued when he failed to turn up for a court appearance in August.

After spending the night in custody, the 49-year-old was released on $26,000 bail, according to jail records.

A Los Angeles police spokesman said Mr Sizemore was arrested in a drug-related investigation. No further details were available, but Mr Sizemore told the TMZ celebrity news website that it was a mix-up related to a 2009 battery arrest.

Mr Sizemore, whose other credits include Natural Born Killers and True Romance, has had several brushes with the law in recent years.

In 2003 he was convicted of misdemeanor abuse charges against ex-girlfriend and infamous Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss.

Then in 2006, he was given probation and a 16-month suspended sentence after pleading no contest to possession of methamphetamines, but was jailed for several months in 2007 after breaking the probation terms.
