President George Abela was recently presented with an action plan recommending various measures to make San Anton Palace more eco-friendly following an environmental audit of the Palace conducted by pupils and students involved in the Ekoskola committees of six neighbouring schools.
The proposed measures include replacing traditional lightbulbs with energy-savers, intalling dual flushing systems in the toilets, the greater use of solar panels and less use of food packaging, and introducing waste separation bins in the Kitchen Garden and private gardens.
The schools involved in the exercise were St Theresa College’s Birkirkara primary, Lija-Iklin-Balzan primary and Birkirkara Boys’ secondary schools, together with St Monica school, Birkirkara, Stella Maris school, Balzan, and St Francis school, Birkirkara.
Ekoskola is an environmental education programme run by the Foundation for Environmental Education and managed locally by Nature Trust Malta.
