A court has rejected a prosecution request for two men facing bribery charges to give voice samples to match with a recorded conversation, as this might incriminate them.

Chris Brincat, 27, from Floriana, and Ronnie Mackay, 31, of Marsa, deny trying to bribe footballer Sunday Eboh on September 27.

The court previously heard they approached Mr Eboh the day before a First Division match between Naxxar and Gżira, which ended 2-2.

Evidence heard in court showed Mr Eboh secretly recorded Mr Brincat and Mr Mackay discussing the bribe when meeting him.

Lawyers Veronique Dalli, Franco Debono, Marion Camilleri and Dean Hili argued voice samples would breach their clients’ human rights. Defendants have the right not to testify in court if it may incriminate them.
