Samantha Cameron paid tribute to British design talent as she made a high-profile visit to London Fashion Week.

The British Prime Minister’s wife joined celebrities, fashionistas and the international press as some of the biggest names in British fashion unveiled their spring and summer 2012 ideas in the capital.

Downing Street said Cameron, an ambassador for the British Fashion Council, wore aPeter Pilotto top, trousers by Joseph, shoes by LK Bennett and an Anya Hindmarch coat forthe occasion.

A spokeswoman for the Peter Pilotto collection, the work of British designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos, said they were delighted she had been able to attend their show.

“She has worn the label a couple of times to high-profile events – the boys love her and were very, very pleased that she was able to come. She is a big fan of British talent,” she said.

Cameron said: “London Fashion Week shines a spotlight on our talented British designers and I’m proud to see its reputation continue to go from strength to strength.

“These shows bring so many important global industry figures and business to our capital, it’s fantastic to see the impact the industry has on our economy.”

Celebrities flocked to the pop-up catwalks around London. Supermodel Kate Moss and actressKristen Stewart were spotted on the front row of the lively Mulberry show, which was inspired by British summertime.

Anna Wintour, editor of American Vogue, also watched a handful of the shows including the Nicole Farhi catwalk and the Unique spring-summer 2012 show at the Topshop Venue.

Others at the Unique show, held at the old Eurostar Stationin Waterloo, were supermodel Naomi Campbell and singers Kelis, Ellie Goulding and Nicola Roberts.

Goulding was also spotted at the Marios Schwab show sitting next to glamourous supermodel Erin O’Connor.
