Fgura United 1
Birżebbuġa St Peter’s 1

Birżebbuġa bagged their first point of the season after four consecutive defeats when they held Fgura at the Centenary Stadium yesterday.

Fgura made all the early running and Roland Emeka failed to conclude from close in while Philip Chircop’s volley was blocked by goalkeeper Boatto.

The Birżebbuġa no.1 then effected a fine block to keep out Emeka’s low drive.

Birżebbuġa threatened late in the first half but Bonati failed to connect to Lydon Micallef’s cross in front of a gaping goal.

On 61 minutes Birżebbuġa suffered a setback when Sunday Eboh fouled Emeka in the box. The referee pointed to the spot and dismissed the Nigerian defender.

From the ensuing penalty Philip Chircop drilled the ball past goalkeeper Boatto.

Numerical parity was restored on 73 minutes when Fgura’s Abdul Razak Mendy was dismissed by referee Sandro Spiteri after he committed a second bookable offence.

Chircop denied Birżebbuġa an equaliser on 82 minutes when he cleared off the line Rio Micallef’s header.

But the Saints finally got the breakthrough a minute from time when Jerry Ani’s low shot rolled into the net.
