How much longer are we to hear about fireworks’ tragedies that end up in lives being lost? Would it not be sensible for the Government and Opposition to take a bold step by agreeing to outlaw these so-called ‘kmamar tan-nar’ in our islands and build a modern fireworks factory, run by foreign experts if necessary, that can meet the demand for fireworks in the country? Those who made their living from such work can be given a job in such a factory, strictly controlled however, by Government officials.

The excessive use of fireworks in the last decades could be tackled by establishing a quota of the amount of fireworks that can be used for each and every locality.

If both parties on the political divide take such a decision, they will clearly show that they care for those who vote them into power. And the vast majority of Maltese will surely back them.
