There was plenty of cricket played last week at the Marsa oval.

Topping the list were the two remaining games from the series against Stockport Grammar School (SGS) besides the Summer League clash between Krishna and Overseas and a 25-over friendly won by English side Travellers against Marsa CC.

The third game between Marsa and SGS was a one-sided affair.

Marsa batted first and were bowled out in the 40th over only managing a mere 100 runs.

Mark G. Sacco and Frank Spiteri (17 runs each) and Sarfraz Ali (16) were the main contributors as D. Wright shattered the Marsa batting by taking six wickets.

SGS were comfortable winners making the required runs in the 18th over, led by O. Hall who made an outstanding 78.

With the series score 2-1 for the locals, SGS batted first in the next match and posted a reasonable 183 runs from their 40 overs.

This time, Wright showed that he can also bat efficiently and top scored with 75 runs.

The run chase was on for Marsa and it started off well with Nowell Khosla scoring 53 runs. Sumair Khan added 29 but once he was out a flurry of wickets fell and that did not help Marsa’s cause.

Andy Naudi (57), who was at the crease with the last batsman, Martin Llewlyn, was facing the last ball of the innings, needing four runs for victory.

Unfortunately for the home team, only one point was added and SGS won this game as well to square the series at two-all.

The Summer League game was a tight contest all the way.

Overseas batted first and were bowled out for a modest 62 runs with Mike Caruana scoring 28 runs and Roger Bradley nine.

For Krishna, Bikram Arora took three wickets and Dhruv Duggal and Sumair Khan two.

Krishna may have thought that victory was in their pockets as John Rusher made eight runs and was the team’s third top scorer behind Khan (20) and extras (15).

But wickets soon started to fall and Overseas sensed they could clinch victory.

The chances of a first win for them came when Overseas realised they only needed one wicket to beat Krishna.

They had two good chances to achieve their goal but a catch was dropped and a run-out missed and Krishna scrapped over the line to win this game.

Bradley was the main wicket-taker with three while Jim Hunter took two.

Krishna got ten points for their hard-earned win while Overseas only had one to show in the end.
