Fr Joe Mizzi and Chev. Maurice Mizzi, on behalf of the Spiro Mizzi Foundation, celebrated the launch of two very important recreational rooms for students of St Lawrence parish catechism centre in Vittoriosa.

This centre is crucial to the community of Vittoriosa as it provides children with a place of worship, recreation and sense of belonging after a day at school.

Considered to be an important centre, the Spiro Mizzi Foundation believed it was imperative to invest in the classrooms to enhance the children’s experience and allow them to grow positively.

The foundation invested €8,500 in the refurbishment of the two recreational rooms – the prayer and adolescents’ rooms.

The rooms provide children with a holistic experience that focuses on religious, social, humanistic, educational and cultural values, which in turn help spiritual, mental and physical growth. It is an education centre where children can experience a true sense of belonging.

The latest technological equipment has been installed in both rooms to encourage children to interact and engage during classes.

Fr Mizzi thanked Chev. Mizzi and the Spiro Mizzi Foundation for their generous support, saying: “It is a blessing to find generous individuals ready to support the future and growth of our children.” Vittoriosa parish currently has 130 children attending classes every afternoon.

Thirty teenagers have started to use the refurbished classrooms.

The Spiro Mizzi Foundation is an NGO set up by Mizzi Organisation president Maurice Mizzi to support and honour the new generations born and living in Cottonera and the surrounding harbour area – the birthplace of his late father Spiridone Mizzi.

Chev. Mizzi set up the Spiro Mizzi Foundation to help less fortunate children from this area benefit from the same opportunities other children may have in other parts of Malta in the academic field.
