A woman who was run over by a reversing car was yester-day awarded almost €10,000 in damages.
Carmen Borg told the court that, on May 25, 2010, she saw Eric Zammit parking a car in front of her house in Ħamrun.
She waited for him to park and then started to cross the road, but Mr Zammit reversed his car and hit her, she said.
She fell to the ground, injured her hip and required surgery.
Mrs Borg said that she had to undergo physiotherapy and pay for a maid to help her at home.
Before the incident, she said she had been an active housewife and the principal carer for her seriously ill husband. However, the injuries sustained in the incident meant that she could no longer carry out her normal routine.
Mr Zammit accepted that he was responsible for the accident.
The court heard that Mrs Borg suffered a 15 per cent per- manent disability.
Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco said that housework had an economic value and that he would assess the damages payable to Mrs Borg on the basis of the minimum wage, setting the damages at €9,467.47.
