Opposition Whip David Agius asked Speaker Anġlu Farrugia to give a ruling on the cancellation of a Family Affairs Parliamentary Committee meeting due to lack of quorum.

He said that on Saturday Nationalist MP Joe Cassar met committee chairman Anthony Agius Decelis, who verbally agreed to hold a meeting on Monday so Angela Abela, head of the University’s Family Institute, could speak on civil unions and child adoption.

Government Whip Carmelo Abela said requests for unsch-eduled meetings of such committees had to be made in writing and agreed to by members.

He pointed out that government MPs sitting on the committee in question had other parliamentary business to attend to at the same time.

Dr Farrugia said he would give a ruling at a later stage.
