Maltese composer Ruben Zahra has been invited by the Euro Mediterranean Music Academy (Emma) for Peace to be part of its international initiative of promoting peace through music.

The Emma for Peace, which boasts the celebrated Italian conductor Riccardo Muti as its honorary president, will be officially launched under the patronage of Unesco and the auspices of the secretary general of the Council of Europe during tomorrow’s 13th World Summit for the Nobel Prize for Peace in Warsaw.

Apart from a good number of artists from Europe, the group also includes artists from the Middle East and Africa and, alongside Zahra, also includes Maltese pianist Charlene Farrugia.

The Emma for Peace is a non-profit global organisation founded by cultural entrepreneur Paolo Petrocelli, based on his conviction that music can be a positive force for change in our world.

The organisation seeks to promote music education and cultural diplomacy. Its initiatives are carried out via a network of music institutions, universities and philanthropic foundations, all brought together in the shared interest of music and the promotion of peace in the Mediterranean and Middle East regions. Through its collaborations with national institutions and other international organisations, the Emma for Peace encourages peace-building initiatives, staging concerts, master classes, workshops and other educational programmes with the support and participation of world-renowned artists.
