A teenager was jailed for two months and fined €500 after he kicked a woman police sergeant and caused a fracas in Paceville two years ago.

The man, who cannot be named because he was a minor at the time of the crime, had kicked WPS Mariucca Scicluna on her leg when he was arrested during a fight on February 6, 2010.

The teenager had been disrespectful to police officers, both men and women, who were on the beat.

Witnesses testified that together with a group of friends, the accused started making gestures at the police when Inspector Anne Marie Micallef walked over and asked whether the group wanted to tell anything to the police.

At that point the man told her: “Just get on with your work, you ...., for €10”, adding that he could earn that much in half an hour.

Later on in the evening, the police caught him fighting in the centre of Paceville and arrested him. As they tried to place him in the police van he grabbed the sides and kicked out, hitting WPS Scicluna in the leg.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman found him guilty of causing slight injury to the officer, violently resisting arrest, breaching the peace and bail conditions.

He has appealed.
