Roma have announced the signing of Germany international Antonio Rudiger on a season-long loan from Stuttgart.

The 22-year-old defender, who has made 66 league appearances for Stuttgart since making his first team debut in January 2012, joins the Serie A side on a €4m deal.

A statement from Roma read: “Roma are pleased to announce that German defender Antonio Rudiger has joined on a season-long loan from Stuttgart.

“The agreement also includes the option to make the transfer of Antonio Rudiger permanent from the 2016/17 season for €9m.”

Rudiger expressed his excitement at joining the Rome-based outfit.

He said on the club’s official website: “I’m absolutely delighted to be able to wear the Roma jersey.

“I’ve come here to win titles, to win the Scudetto. I would like to thank all the Roma fans and promise them that I will give everything for this club.”

Roma, coached by Rudi Garcia, begin the 2015/16 Serie A campaign at Verona on Saturday.
